Howard alum named Schwarzman Scholar
Dear Howard University Community,
Earlier this week, the Schwarzman Scholars, one of the world’s most prestigious graduate fellowships, announced its most recent cohort. I am pleased to share that a member of our family has been selected for this wonderful honor.
Howard alumnus Evan Quaintance (B.A. ’23) was chosen from a pool of more than 4,000 applicants to participate in the fellowship, becoming just the third Howard University Schwarzman Scholar in our school’s history.
Evan will join 150 other candidates selected from 43 countries and 114 universities around the world for the fully funded, one-year master’s degree program in global affairs. He will be in residence at Schwarzman College on the campus of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. In May, Evan graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and double minor in philosophy and legal communications. At Howard, Evan served in the 62nd Howard University Student Association administration, and was a program chair of the Men of George Washington Carver, an organization dedicated to public service and promoting male brotherhood.
A Jacksonville, Florida native, he is a passionate leader who aims to amplify the voices of unheard communities. As a teen, Evan worked to reform the juvenile justice system, helped rename schools dedicated to leaders of the Confederacy, and partnered with global leaders to strengthen the ties between the African American community and the African diaspora. He aspires to deepen his understanding of transportation and infrastructure policy and is excited to learn more about mainland China’s existing rail network.
I extend my personal congratulations to Evan Quaintance on being selected as one of this year’s Schwarzman Scholars. His commitment to academic endeavors makes him an exemplar of Howard’s commitment to excellence and service. Please join me in congratulating him on this most special accomplishment.
Committed to Truth and Service,
Ben Vinson III, Ph.D.
President
