Observing Veterans Day 2023

Dear Howard University Community,

I write to you as we prepare to observe Veterans Day, honoring the brave men and women who have selflessly served our nation throughout the years. One of those individuals happens to be my father, retired CMSGT Ben Vinson Jr.

At Howard University, we take great pride in the diversity of our community and recognize the invaluable contributions of our student, faculty, and staff veterans. They have not only served our nation with distinction but continue to serve in various capacities, enriching our campus with their unique experiences and perspectives. On this Veterans Day, we pay tribute to them and extend our heartfelt thanks.

Our veterans have displayed resilience and determination from which we can all draw inspiration, especially during times of adversity. Their stories and journeys serve as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and our capacity to overcome obstacles, lessons that we can all embrace as we pursue our individual goals and aspirations.

As we come together to commemorate Veterans Day, let us remember the enduring values of honor, duty, and selflessness that our veterans exemplify, values that resonate deeply with Howard University's mission to advance knowledge, promote social justice, and instill a sense of service in our students.

In observance of the Veterans Day holiday, Howard University will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 10, 2023. The University will reopen Monday, November 13, 2023.

On behalf of the entire Howard University family, I again want to express my deepest gratitude to our veterans and their families for their dedication and sacrifice. We look forward to a day of reflection, unity, and appreciation for their service.

Committed to Truth and Service,

Ben Vinson III, Ph.D.
