Largest Alumni Donation in Howard History
Dear Howard University Community,
When Howard alumni graduate from Alma Mater, their diplomas do not serve as a ticket to leave the Mecca behind. Rather, their diplomas are a symbol of their eternal connection to Howard University and the students on our campus. This connection affords our alumni the means and the opportunity to play a vital role in the lives of current and future Howard students.
Center for Sickle Cell Disease 50th Anniversary - Letter from the President
Dear Howard University Community,
September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, a time where we must renew our efforts and reconcentrate our energy in advocating for those who suffer from sickle cell disease. Only through dedicated research can we develop treatments and, ultimately, find a cure for this affliction that affects more than 100,000 people in the United States.
This year, however, the month of September is particularly meaningful as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Howard University Center for Sickle Cell Disease.
Responding to the Cyberattack
Dear Howard University Community,
This past week has been a trying one for our University. As so many in our community were still adjusting to being back on campus after a prolonged absence and acclimating to campus life amidst our pandemic response, we encountered yet a new challenge. The ransomware cyberattack of September 3 has disrupted our University’s operations and made it difficult for our students to study, our faculty to teach and our staff to work.

Dear Howard University Community,
The founding of the United States on July 4, 1776 was predicated on a vision of what was to come rather than an acknowledgement of what already existed. The Declaration of Independence did not instantaneously create a new nation, but rather an intent to found one and the principles upon which it would be built. There was still a war to be fought, a constitution to be drafted and a government to be created before America would truly take shape. But still, the date we recognize as the beginning coincided with the dream of what could be.
In Memoriam: Gloria Richardson
Dear Howard University Community,
It is with deep sadness that I share news of the passing of Gloria Richardson, a civil rights icon and revolutionary activist, at the age of 99. Amidst the towering male figures of the 1960s, Richardson stood in no one’s shadow. As much as Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X helped define two separate poles of civil rights activism, Richardson came to represent another distinct wing of the movement.
